Uniform Policy & Dress Code

While at school. students are expected to be in uniform unless otherwise directed by administration.  All students at Bradford Prep will be required to follow the dress code below for any school event or any nonuniform days. At any time, the Director has full discretion to enforce this policy. Failure to comply with the School’s uniform policy and/or dress code are violations of the Student Code of Conduct.

Dress Code

In support of the mission of the school, clothing may not disrupt the learning environment. A student's dress and general appearance should not be so extreme that it draws attention to the student, nor should dress and appearance detract or interfere with the teaching and learning in the classroom. Attire should be modest in nature and not offensive to others. No clothing will be allowed that defames, degrades or is offensive to a gender, race, color, religious group, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, age, a physical or mental impairment or culture. Nor shall any clothing display any suggestive or objectionable material. Clothing must not advocate unhealthy behavior, dangerous practice, or create a safety problem (includes no graphics/text containing sexual connotations, controlled substances or violence). Appropriate, safe footwear must be worn at all times. Winter hats or head coverings may only be worn outside unless for religious beliefs. Baseball caps cannot be worn during the school day. If wearing leggings, leotards or tights, fist length shorts, fingertip length shirts, skirts or dresses must be worn over them. Hem of shorts are at fist length when arms are resting at the sides and skirts and dresses must be fingertip length. Tank top straps must be at least 1" in width to cover all under garments. Students must exert a certain amount of judgment in their choice of clothing to wear to a school event.

Some examples of attire that cannot be worn:

  • Mesh shirts 
  • Leggings unless they are under a skirt
  • Clothing that exposes bare midriffs or bare backs
  • Pants worn that are excessively sagging
  • Pajamas or slippers
  • Sheer or see-through clothing
  • Underclothing that is visible
  • Halter tops or tube tops
  • Facial piercings with the exception of earrings
 

This list is not all-inclusive and is subject to change at the Administration’s discretion. 

 

Uniform Policy

Students are required to wear uniforms to school every day of the week unless otherwise specified by an administrator.   The specific required uniforms for each day are:

  • Monday-Thursday all students are required to follow the regular school uniform as stated below.

  • Fridays (Grades K-8)- all students are required to wear their house shirt with khaki shorts or pants, jeans or athletic shorts.  No leggings with the house shirt.

 
  • Fridays (Grades 9-11) – all upper school students have free dress. Please note however, students must follow the dress code requirements on free dress days.

 

Parents are welcome to purchase uniforms items from any local retailer, however all logoed apparel must be purchased from Lands' End.  PE Uniforms can only be worn during PE class.  Please use the following button to access the Lands' End site with our specific uniform attire:

BOYS:

  • Every student must have at least one navy blue polo shirt with the Bradford Prep logo (with or without the tree) purchased from Lands' End as well as khaki bottoms to be worn with it.  Logoed uniform shirts must be worn on field trips, for school wide events and on specified days as directed by the school administration.

  • Pants or shorts that are khaki or navy blue in color (khaki or navy blue colored cargo pants or shorts are permitted). At minimum, hem of shorts are at fist length when arms are resting at the sides and must be a minimum of a 7" inseam. (Khaki and navy colored bottoms may be purchased from any retailer)

  • Short sleeve or long sleeve navy blue, light blue or evergreen polo shirts.  

  • If the student chooses to wear a jacket over the uniform shirt in the classroom, it must be either a solid navy blue jacket or sweater .   Any visible logos or writing must be less than 1" in diameter. Jackets and outerwear can be a half zip or full zip but cannot have a hood or front pocket - side pockets are acceptable. 

  • No hooded sweatshirts of any kind may be worn during the school day with the exception of lunch, recess and PE when students are outside.  Hooded sweatshirts worn in the classroom after the bell rings will be taken and sent to the office and can be retrieved at the end of the day.

  • Students may wear a white or grey long sleeve shirt under their uniform.

  • No flip flops, slides or hats.

  • Students are not required to wear athletic shoes during the day, but all shoes worn must have at minimum a strap around the ankle. Students must bring athletic shoes for PE every day if they do not wear them to school. (Shoes may be purchased from any retailer)

  • No rolling backpacks due to the number of students passing in the halls in between classes.

 

Upper School Only

​In addition to the uniform options listed above, Upper School students have the following additional uniform shirt options:

Any short sleeve or long sleeve polo or button down oxford shirt.  Shirts may not have a logo larger than a 1" diameter on them unless it is the Bradford logo.  Students may wear flip flops but no slides.

  

PE Uniforms for Boys in Grades 7-11

  • T-shirts (short or long sleeve) with any Bradford logo on them.  Options include the Bradford Athletics logo screen printed shirts by Lands' End (available at Open Houses or online) or any attire purchased through the spirit store.

  • Navy, black or gray mesh shorts - can be purchased from Lands' End or any retailer but must have a minimum of a 4" inseam.

  • Athletic socks and running shoes of any color or brand (Can be purchased from any retailer).

  • Any color athletic pants when it is too cold for shorts with the PE short sleeve shirt.  Hooded sweatshirts may be worn over the PE shirt as needed and do not need to be from Lands' End but sweatshirts may not be worn back into the classroom at the end of PE.

 

GIRLS:

  • Every student must have at least one navy blue polo shirt with the Bradford Prep logo (with or without the tree) purchased from Lands' End along with khaki bottoms.   Logoed uniform shirts must be worn on field trips, for schoolwide events and on specified days as directed by the school administration.

  • Pants, shorts, capris or skirts that are khaki or navy blue in color (can be from any retailer).  Skirts and shorts should be of a modest length. At minimum, hem of shorts are at fist length when arms are resting at the sides and have a minimum of a 5" inseam.  Skirts and dresses must be fingertip length and modesty shorts with a minimum of a 5" inseam must always be worn under skirts if they are not built into the clothing item.

  • Short sleeve or long sleeve navy blue, light blue or evergreen polo shirts.  

  • Light blue button down oxford shirts available through Lands' End.

  • Navy blue, light blue, or khaki polo dresses from any retailer as long as they are solid in color and the retailer logo is no bigger than 1" in diameter.
