Course Description
Advanced Placement U.S. History is a college level survey course of U.S. History from the Pre- Columbian days to the present. Emphasis is on interpreting of documents and primary sources, developing historical thinking and writing critical essays. Topics include: life in colonial America, revolutionary ideology, constitutional development, development of political parties, Jeffersonian and Jacksonian democracy, nineteenth-century reform movements, Manifest Destiny, Civil War, Reconstruction, immigration, industrialization, Populism, imperialism, Progressivism, World War I, the Jazz Age, the Great Depression, the New Deal Era, World War II, the Cold War and Post-Cold War Era, and the United States in the twenty-first century. A variety of instructional approaches are employed and a college level textbook is supplemented by primary and secondary sources.
