Dual Enrollment Program Information
Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) and other nearby Community Colleges offer a tuition-free Dual Enrollment program, also known as Career & College Promise (CCP), for eligible North Carolina high school students. This program allows students to earn college credit while still enrolled in high school. To participate, students need to meet specific eligibility requirements, including a minimum GPA or qualifying test scores, and gain approval from their high school. Students can choose from College Transfer Pathways or Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways.
Transfer Pathways
When students choose to take dual enrollment classes, they can only take classes from their chosen pathway. If students register for classes outside of their pathway, the college will drop those class(es). Students can be in two Career and Technical Pathways at one time OR one Career and Technical Pathway and one Transfer pathway at one time. You may also choose to participate in just one Transfer pathway.
College Transfer Pathways
Designed for students planning to continue their educational career beyond high school to eventually achieve an Associate's or Bachelor's degree at a community college or university. Courses taken through these pathways are eligible for transfer to all UNC member institutions, so long as the student earns a 'C' or higher. These courses will earn AP weight (+1) on the High School Transcript. Students must be a Junior or Senior and have >2.8 GPA to sign up for a College Transfer Pathway.
Career and Technical Pathways
CPCC offers 30 different career and technical pathways designed to help you get a head start on a great career. You will earn college credits toward a certificate, diploma, or 2-year degree. These programs prioritize hands-on learning and relevant workplace skills to prepare you for your career. Students can choose from a list of career and technical pathways based on qualifying factors. Students must be a Junior or Senior to take courses in the career and technical pathways, but there is no minimum GPA requirement.
Registering for the Dual Enrollment Courses
The process for registering for Dual Enrollment courses is lengthy and primarily managed by the student and their parent. Students interested in registering for courses should reach out to our Dual Enrollment Coordinator, Martin Unger to better understand the requirements and timeline.
