8th Grade Washington DC Trip

Our 8th grade students will have the opportunity to visit Washington DC this spring! We will spend 4 days and 3 nights exploring a variety of museums and monuments while on this trip. In addition, we will also tour the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. 

 

 

A full itinerary will be shared at the parent meeting, but students will visit the following places:

Trip Dates: 4/30 - 5/3 (Departing at 6:30AM on Tuesday, 4/30 and returning to Bradford at around 7PM on Friday, 5/3)

 

Accommodations: We will be staying at the Residence Inn Washington DC Downtown

 

Food:  All meals are included in the cost of the trip. 

 

Cost of Trip: $635 for students

Trip Eligibility
 
1. Student must be in good academic standing - Student may not be failing any classes as of the end of the third quarter (F1 grade). 
2.  Students may not have accrued more than 2 Days of Out of School Suspension during the 2023-2024 school year
3. Student must meet the following attendance requirements:
      • Students may not have more than 3 unexcused absences after February 6th
      • Students may not have more than 5 unexcused tardies/early dismissals after February 6th
4. Permission slip must be received by the due date. Payment must be paid on time per due dates scheduled above. Students may not have any outstanding fees due – including but not limited to technology, repairs, club dues, athletic fees, etc.
Sign ups for the DC trip open up on Tuesday night at 8:30PM after the 8PM Parent Meeting.
 
Parent Chaperones: We would love to take 6-10 parent chaperones depending upon how many students sign up for the trip. If you are interested in chaperoning, please sign up via the link below by 2/16. We will notify chaperones by 2/20 regarding whether we have room for you to attend. The cost to chaperone is the same as the student's cost.

Student Medications on the Trip:

Prescription Medications: The retreat is a school-sanctioned activity; therefore by law, every student carrying a medication is required to have a physician-completed medication authorization form indicating the name of the medication, need for the medication, dosage, time(s) of administration.  The form and the meds must be turned into the nurse by April 29, 2024.
 
OTC Meds: Over the counter meds may be brought with a note from the parent.  Students should only bring enough for the trip and again meds should be turned into the nurse by April 29, 2024.
 
Packing List: 
  • 3-4 uniform sets (students will wear uniforms during the day and can change into something more casual in the evening - no hats during the day or at night)
  • 2-3 Casual outfits (Dress Code appropriate)
  • Raincoat/lightweight jacket
  • Day bag, including refillable water bottle and individual snacks
  • Watch
  • Camera if desired
  • Watch if you have one
  • Daily snacks if desired
  • Money for snacks/souvenirs during the trip if desired
  • Two pairs of shoes in case one gets wet (we will do a lot of walking so students need to bring comfortable walking shoes)
 
What Not to Bring:
  • Electronics
  • Mp3 players, iPods, gaming devices
  • Smart watches
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Drugs, alcohol, vapes, tobacco products
  • Soda or energy drinks
  • No gum or chocolate on the bus
  • No hats
